Woman's Photo of Cake Decorated by Girl with Autism Goes Viral
A Michigan woman’s photo of a birthday cake has quickly gone viral and the story behind the picture will likely warm your heart. It also shows how a simple act of kindness can go a long way.

Lisa Sarber Aldrich said on Facebook she picked out a birthday cake at Meijer Gaines Marketplace and asked an employee, who appeared to work in the bakery, to write on it for her.
“She said she would, and after a long time, she came and presented me with this cake,” Aldrich said. “I looked her in the eye and said thank you before I even looked at the cake.”
Aldrich said she looked down and then nervously laughed, but said she didn’t care that it looked “so bad” because she figured people would think it was funny. As she was checking out she said the cashiers didn’t find it funny and called a manger over.
“To my surprise, after they discussed it, one cashier put her arm on my shoulder and said ‘the girl who wrote that has Autism. Thank you for smiling and thanking her.'”
That same cashier told Aldrich that the woman who helped her isn’t supposed to write on cakes, but she probably made her day by letting her do so.
“So I guess the moral of the story is that kindness is important,” Aldrich said at the end of the Facebook post.

I am totally overwhelmed by God’s goodness, and how he has used this cake story! I am sitting here weeping and reading…

The photo has been shared more than 96,000 times. Since then, Aldrich has been overwhelmed and surprised by the response.
“I feel humbled and blessed! I’m also a little sad that being nice seems so rare, and people are pleasantly surprised by niceness,” she said.
Aldrich shared a bible verse and said maybe we should all share our nice stories more often.

On Tuesday, Aldrich shared another photo of the cake. However, this time it was almost gone. She said it’s been her breakfast since Saturday! She also made sure that everyone was aware that she’s a real person, this wasn’t a marketing ploy for Meijer, she never asked for publicity and she wants people to consider being nicer to each other.
