Judge revokes Tex McIver's bond after gun in apartment
A judge has revoked the bond of prominent attorney Tex McIver on Wednesday after a search warrant turned up a gun in his apartment in violation of his bond conditions.
The Fulton County District Attorney’s Office recently executed a search warrant on the Buckhead condo the couple shared, looking for financial documents that could lead to a possible motive for the killing. While searching the home, an investigator found a gun in the master bedroom closet.

Having a gun would be a violation of McIver’s bond, so the district attorney asked for an emergency bond hearing, which began Friday.
Resuming Tuesday morning, prosecutors suggested the gun may have been used a few years back during an incident in which McIver tried to fire shot shell, or pellet spray at a pesky buzzard that was on the deck of the property. At the time, McIver’s wife was sitting nearby.
A defense lawyer called the buzzard story irrelevant. And the lawyers contend the weapon that was discovered in the closet did not belong to McIver.
McIver is facing manslaughter and reckless conduct charges in the September 2016 shooting death of his wife.
The district attorney is using the gun discovery to argue that McIver’s bond should be revoked, according to district attorney’s office.

Sources close to the investigation told FOX 5’s Morse Diggs that McIver was careful to remove all working weapons from his home, and that he claims that the gun found in the search was not his.

In December 2016, a judge imposed a $200,000 bond on McIver for the involuntary manslaughter of his wife. The court also ordered McIver to wear an ankle bracelet monitor and have him turn in his passport.

In September 2016, Atlanta Police said Mrs. McIver, 64, was a passenger in an SUV which had pulled off the interstate at Edgewood Avenue to avoid construction. According to investigators, the SUV had two other occupants at the time and continued to travel on surface streets toward Buckhead.
The SUV was on Piedmont Avenue near Piedmont Park. Investigators said, when a gun inside the vehicle discharged, Mrs. McIver was wounded. She was rushed to Emory University Hospital on Clifton Road where she was pronounced dead just before 1 a.m. on September 26.
