An overnight plane crash in Habersham County left one person dead.

Baldwin City Police said the pilot was the only person on board the single engine plane that went down around midnight.

The plane crashed in a wooded area right in the middle of a mobile home park near the Habesham County Airport. Police and witnesses said it’s a miracle the pilot avoided the homes, possibly preventing more fatalities.

Witnesses told FOX 5 they heard the plane take off, the engine sputter and then die. The next thing they saw was the plane plummeting to the ground. The impact woke up just about everyone in the park. Some of whom rushed to see if they could help the pilot, whose name hasn’t been released.

The F.A.A. and N.T.S.B. have been notified. They are expected to arrive at the crash site later Thursday morning.
