Your tip sheet: Save! Earn! Win!

Days left in the 2017 legislative session: 8

The House and Senate both return to action today at 10 a.m. While the Senate has begun to pick up the pace on bills on the floor, the House has just a pair of minor matters.

Much more action is happening in committee.

The House Energy, Utilities and Telecommunications Committee has Senate Bill 191, Sen. Rick Jeffares’ bill rewriting the rules of how companies can seize private property to build new petroleum pipelines. It meets at 3 p.m. in Room 403 of the Capitol.

The House Banks and Banking Committee meets at 1 p.m. in Room 406 CLOB and will have a hearing-only on SB 134, Senate President Pro Tem David Shafer’s ” Save, Earn, Win Act” that would allow banks and credit unions to offer prizes to people who open savings accounts.

A House Judiciary Non-Civil subcommittee meets at 1 p.m. in Room 132 CAP to consider Senate Majority Leader Bill Cowsert’s SB 1, the re-write of the state’s domestic terrorism laws.

And in the Senate, all eyes are on a Judiciary sub-committee that meets at 4 p.m. in Room 307 CLOB. HB 280, the “campus carry” gun bill, is not on what’s already a very long agenda. We’re told that if it does get added, it would be hearing-only.
