Your tip sheet: Craft brewers make their move in the Capitol
Days remaining in the 2017 Legislative session: 32
The House and Senate will start at 10 a.m.. Neither chamber has bills on the floor, but committee action is beginning to heat up.
In the Senate, the Regulated Industries and Utilities Committee meets at 1 p.m. and will take up SB 85, sponsored by committee Chairman Sen. Rick Jeffares, R-McDonough. The bill would allow beer lovers to buy directly from Georgia’s craft breweries and brew pubs, ending a decades-old stand-off between the brewers and the state’s beer wholesalers.
In the House, the Insurance Committee meets at 3 p.m. and will take up HB 146, sponsored by Rep. Micah Gravley, R-Douglasville. The bill would provide the state’s firefighters a private insurance policy to cover cancer diagnosis related to their work. Gov. Nathan Deal vetoed a similar bill last year and it is again a key priority of House Speaker David Ralston.
