NewsOne’s PolitickerOne blog tackles some of the most important topics in politics: Election 2016, moves by the Obama administration, voting rights, lawmaking, and the way that elected officials represent our communities. Three times a week, we will go beyond the mainstream media’s “pack” coverage of politics to highlight the underreported aspects of how politics and policy affect you and the people you care about. While poll results released Thursday show Democratic and Republican presidential frontrunners Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump as clear winners of primaries for their respective parties in Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, Vice President Joe Biden performs better than both in hypothetical general-election match-ups.
And unlike Deez Nuts, Biden has not declared his candidacy for the race. But he won a hypothetical general election against Trump and others, according to the poll from Quinnipiac University:
Clinton gets 41 percent to 39 percent for Bush. Rubio has 42 percent to Clinton’s 40 percent while Clinton tops Trump 43 – 38 percent. Biden gets 42 percent to Bush’s 39 percent and gets 42 percent to Rubio’s 41 percent. Biden beats Trump 48 – 38 percent. Sanders trails Bush 42 – 36 percent and loses 42 – 34 percent to Rubio. Sanders gets 42 percent to Trump’s 40 percent.
What does this mean? It just means that Clinton and other candidates have to tighten up their message points. Clinton has been waylaid by the email scandal, and Donald Trump has been low on substance, while dazzling the media and prospective voters with his magic show. Results in the three states are important because since 1960, no candidate has won the presidential race without taking at least two of the three, Quinnipiac says.
Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll, said in a statement that the numbers give Biden “new information to consider.”
“In head-to-head matchups against the three leading contenders for the Republican nomination, he runs as well or slightly better than she does,” he said in a release accompanying the poll results.
Meanwhile, the poll also found that Clinton and Trump have the worst overall favorability ratings among all voters of any of the leading candidates, and the lowest scores for being honest and trustworthy. Said Quinnipiac:
“Hillary Clinton’s poll numbers are like a leaky faucet: drip…drip… drip. She is now getting less than half the vote in all three states’ Democratic primaries,” Brown states. “Perhaps most telling is how poorly she scores when all voters in these three key states are asked about her empathy, honesty and temperament. In Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania she averages a negative 37 – 55 percent favorability. Donald Trump is in the same leaky boat, averaging a negative 34 – 53 percent favorability.
But the poll also shows good news for Clinton. She remains way ahead of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Biden in the three Democratic primary contests.
“The first Republican debate mattered,” Brown states. “Gov. Jeb Bush got middling debate grades and slips in the GOP horse race. Yet he does very well when voters rate the leading Republican candidates on personal characteristics. He scores best on honesty, empathy and temperament to handle an international crisis, while finishing a close second to Trump on leadership.”
Clinton’s campaign declined to comment on the poll results.
However, not all would not be rosy for Biden, who has his own version of Clinton’s email scandal if he decides to jump in the race.
The New York Times said Friday that Biden’s support of the

And there’s this…
“Stump For Trump” girls, Lynette “Diamond” Hardaway and Rochelle “Silk” Richardson, returned this week with another dispatch.
This time, they are praising Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump for his efforts to secure the nation’s borders from “illegals:” “He said you know what, ‘we’re going to have to deport these illegals,’” Hardaway says. “That’s how you lead, baby. You don’t just talk about it, but you go ‘head on and start being about it.”
