Police: 92-year-old man kills wife, self inside retirement home
Atlanta police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide inside a retirement home in Buckhead. Police said it appears the 92-year-old man shot and killed his 86-year-old wife, then turned the gun on himself.
Police and emergency personnel were called to the St. Anne’s Terrace retirement community on Northside Parkway Monday afternoon. Police said a staff member found the couple together inside their apartment with gunshot wounds.
Residents said both were in poor health and police said that may have played a role into what led to the tragic deaths. As investigators try to figure out what exactly happened, they admit it’s hard on investigators.
“It wears on a person because we all have members of our family we can relate to and certainly hope nothing like this will happen to them,” said Atlanta Police Major Adam Lee III.
When Margaret Etheridge heard about the deaths she came over to check on her mom who has been living here for a few months.
“I wondered if I knew the people because it’s a lovely community and I’ve had dinner with my mother and some of the couples here. It’s just tragic,” said Etheridge.
Police did not release the names of those who died. They said the couple did not have any children, but did have relatives in the Atlanta area.
