Nature Made vitamins, dietary supplements RECALLED over possible Salmonella, Staph contamination
A major recall was announced involving Nature Made dietary supplements due to a possible Salmonella and Staphylococcus aureus contamination.
Pharmavite LLC, the make of the popular vitamins announced the recall on Tuesday.
“We are initiating this recall out of an abundance of caution to protect public health,” they said in an online statement. “Pharmavite is working closely with the FDA to implement this recall and we are notifying all retail customers and distributors to remove the product from store shelves immediately. No other products are impacted by this recall. The recalled products were distributed nationwide to various major retailers.”
The following products are included in the recall:
Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
Staph aureus toxins in food may lead to food poisoning. Symptoms commonly include nausea, vomiting, retching, abdominal cramping, and prostration.
Pharmavite says the lot number can be found on the back panel next to the expiration date. Products that fall within the lots indicated should not be consumed. They say consumers can return the affected products to their retailer for a full refund. Anyone with questions may contact the company during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm PST at 1-800-276-2878.
Additional Product Being Recalled From Retailers
The following products were not in the Pharmavite press release as the concerns regarding potential Salmonella or Staphylococcus aureus contamination do not exist for these products. Pharmavite said they are recalling these products from our retailers out of an abundance of caution for other reasons.
