Michelle Obama drops new music video ‘Go to College,’ raps with the best of them

“FLOTUS on the track.”

That’s the opening to Michelle Obama’s rap verse in a new music video promoting the benefits of attending college.

The video is a collaboration with comedy site CollegeHumor and falls under the first lady’s broader Reach Higher initiative.

Obama gets some help from SNL’s Jay Pharaoh, who handles the majority of the rapping.

“South Side Chicago, we all know,” the first lady raps. “We had to do overtime every night to make it tomorrow.”

The video enjoys the viral-happy production of the Gregory Brothers.

In a statement, Obama said the music video was a “fun and fresh way” to encourage young people to take control of their future:

When I launched my Better Make Room campaign in October, I said that this campaign is about celebrating students the same way we celebrate athletes and celebrities.  I want to honor and empower young people who are working hard in school and pursuing their dreams – and I want to do it in a fun and fresh way – and that’s why I was so excited to film this “music video” with Jay Pharoah, CollegeHumor, and the Gregory Brothers.

Back in March, the first lady’s performance of Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk” on Ellen pretty much won the Internet.

Looks like FLOTUS has another one on her hands.
