Man Murdered During Carjacking in Union City

Union City Police said a man was carjacked and murdered outside a gas station early Saturday morning.

The incident happened Chevron in the 4500 block of Jonesboro Road around 2 a.m. Police released surveillance video of the incident on Monday in hopes someone would recognize the gunman.

Investigators said an armed man carjacked and shot Taurus Jermaine Freeman outside the store. Surveillance video from the store shows a man with a gun rush toward Freeman just outside the front doors of the convience store. The two get into a brief scuffle, Freeman is knocked to the ground. He gets back up and that’s when the gunman shoots him multiple times. He was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital where he died from his injuries Sunday.

Quatney Sape is a regular customer at the store. She says its frightening to know a man was murdered over a car. “We come here late at night because my husband works third shift and when he gets off this is where we come, it’s scary,” says Sape.

Police say the car is a red of maroon 2012 Dodge Challenger with chrome rims. It has a Georgia tag, PIU 5235.
