Gusty winds continue, severe storm risk decreases
The FOX 5 Storm Team is tracking the potential for non-thunderstorm related wind damage through 8 p.m Thursday.
Given the ground is saturated and wind gusts could exceed 40mph+, large trees could more easily fall.

Early Thursday morning, a unique weather event called a “wake low” began in Floyd County and continued northeast toward the North Georgia Mountains. There have been additional “wake lows” that have developed throughout the day, bringing down several trees and wind gusts exceeding 40 mph.

The potential for these non-thunderstorm related winds will continue through sunset. Make sure you keep your mobile devices charged just in case you lose power Thursday.
Most of north Georgia, including metro Atlanta, is under a Wind Advisory until 8 p.m. The advisory includes the following counties: Banks, Barrow, Carroll, Catoosa, Chattooga, Cherokee, Cobb, Dade, DeKalb, Douglas, Floyd, Forsyth, Gwinnett, Hall, Haralson, Jackson, North Fulton, South Fulton, Paulding, Polk, Walker and White.
Thursday afternoon, scattered storms will be numerous, but the risk for severe weather has been downgraded below a level one severe thunderstorm threat. This means that general thunderstorms are still possible and some of them could produce gusty winds and heavy rain.
Once storms shift eastward late Thursday night, clouds, scattered showers, and much cooler temperatures will be the rule overnight and through the day Friday. Friday’s high temperatures will be in the 50s.
