Deadly shooting at motel leads to fiery crash on I-75

Atlanta and Fulton County police are investigating a deadly shooting that led to a fiery wreck in the northbound lanes of Interstate 75 early Wednesday morning.

The shooting happened around 4 a.m. at the Airway Motel on Fulton Industrial Boulevard. A friend of the shooting victim was driving him to a hospital when the car ran out of gas and stalled on the interstate near Northside Drive, according to Atlanta police.

A tractor trailer stopped behind the stalled car, police say, but another vehicle crashed into the back of the truck. The driver of that vehicle suffered a skull fracture and was taken to Grady Hospital. The victim of the shooting died from his injuries.

The wreck and investigation tied up traffic in the northbound lanes of I-75 for a couple of hours. Fulton County police are leading the investigation into the shooting. The victim’s identity was not released Wednesday morning. Investigators had no information about possible suspects in the hours after the shooting.
