Your tip sheet: Preparing for a vote on the ‘little budget’

The House and Senate convene at 10 .m. It will be another day without bills on the floor of either chamber, but the House Appropriations Committee is expected to pass the mid-year budget this morning, which means a floor vote will follow on Thursday. The “little budget,” which covers spending for the rest of this fiscal year, includes a 20 percent pay raise for thousands of law enforcement officers and $5 million for storm assistance.
At 11 a.m. members of the Senate will join their colleagues in the House to hear the annual State of the Judiciary address. Committees are starting to move beyond organizational tasks to the consideration of legislation. The House Ways and Means subcommittee will meet at 2 p.m. to discuss HB 66, the bill to tax immigrants sending money out of the country.
The Capitol will be crawling with smart teenagers all day. More than 170 high school students are expected for the first annual “AP Day at the Hill.” They are scheduled to meet with the governor and lawmakers.
