Your tip sheet: Dollar bills, baby

Days remaining in the 2017 Legislative session: 21

It’s get-away day in the General Assembly as lawmakers seek to head home until Tuesday — meaning committee action is relatively light. Before they go, however, the House will take up the Fiscal 2018 state budget.

The record $25 billion spending plan includes raises for 200,000 teachers and $1 billion in construction projects.

The smart money says the budget bill passes easily.

Three bills are up in the Senate, including two championed by the Senate’s GOP majority caucus.

One, Senate Bill 2, is a grab bag of sorts related to business regulation. Generally speaking, it creates new requirements for state agencies, local municipalities and professional license boards related to how quickly they do things like process applications, issue permits and set regulatory rules.

The other, Senate Bill 3, is an education initiative meant to bolster job training programs in high schools.
