The General Assembly has entered the final turn and is limping, ever so slowly toward the finish line. The House and Senate convene for Day 32 at 10 a.m.. Only one bill is in the House calendar, but it’s a popular one: Senate Bill 85 would allow craft beer and liquor manufacturers to sell directly to consumers.
While the vote is important, it is not final passage as the House amended it to include the liquor industry. The original Senate bill was just for craft beer brewers.
Only two bills are on the Senate calendar including House Bill 260, which would create a special state license plate honoring electric utility linemen.
Much more action, however, is happening in committees (and will be all week).
If you’re an early riser, Senate Appropriations takes up the “big B” $25 billion budget for fiscal 2018 at 8 a.m. in Room 341 CAP.
At 1 p.m. in Room 307 CLOB, Senate Higher Education Committee members will hear about HB 37. The bill would punish private colleges and universities in Georgia that declare themselves “sanctuary campuses” by withdrawing state dollars for things like health services and tuition assistance grants.
