Why a Georgia Republican sent his cell number to 400k GOP voters

State Sen. Michael Williams is becoming increasingly open about his potential bid for statewide office.

The latest evidence came in the form of a robo-call that his strategist said was sent to more than 400,000 conservative Georgia households. With his personal cell phone number.

“I’ve never been so excited about the future of this country,” the Cumming Republican said after detailing his digits. “As the first Georgia elected official to endorse Donald Trump, I’m proud of the incredible work he’s done so far.”

Williams, a businessman who once owned a chain of Sport Clips barber shops, indicated last year he would run for secretary of state if Brian Kemp didn’t seek another four-year term. But after Trump’s victory, he’s hinted repeatedly that he could run for governor in 2018.

His strategist Seth Weathers explained it thusly: “His work in the Senate affects all Georgians so he makes himself available to people across the state to have their voices heard.”
