Survey: Approval ratings for new US president worst ever

According to several different surveys published Friday, Donald Trump has the worst approval rating of any president at this point in their presidency.

Americans on the whole are seemingly unsatisfied with their new president and his controversial executive orders. The CBS survey gave him an approval rating of only 40 percent.

The CNN and Gallup surveys were only slightly better, giving him 44 percent and 43 percent, respectively.

This is the first president to have a negative approval rating at this stage in his presidency.

There was one exception, and that was from the conservative institute Rasmussen, which gave him a 54 percent rating. This was still far lower than other presidents like Obama, who Rasmussen marked as having a 61 percent approval rating on February 3, 2009.

CNN says that most people are opposed to Trump in key areas. For example, he polled below 50 percent on terrorism, immigration and foreign policy, and six out of ten people oppose his plan to build a wall along the border with Mexico.

His travel ban that restricts entry into the US by people from seven Muslim-majority nations also met with disapproval, with 53 percent of respondents being against the ban.

The travel ban questions in the surveys showed that 88 percent of Democrats were against the ban and 88 percent of Republicans support it.

Both sides agreed, to the tune of 78 percent, that Trump has so far performed as expected.
