Search planned for missing Covington man

The family of a Donald Cook is growing more concerned as cold temperatures persist in the metro Atlanta region. The 77-year-old man, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease, disappeared from Covington on Friday and hasn’t been seen since.

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office issued a Mattie’s Call for Cook on Saturday after his family’s efforts to locate him were unsuccessful. Search efforts are expected to continue Sunday in Covington.

Cook was reportedly last seen on Almon Church Road.

He is described as a white male with a thin build, 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighing about 175 pounds. He has brown eyes and grey hair.

According to a missing person’s flyer, he was last seen wearing jeans, a plaid flannel shirt, a black jacket and glasses.

The flyer also said he may be traveling in a gold or tan PT Cruiser with Georgia tags BYW7090.

If you have any information on Cook’s whereabouts, please call the Newton County Sheriff’s Office at 770-784-2100.
