Police: Credit card leads to Lenox Square shooting suspect

Police said the man accused of opening fire at Lenox Square Mall on Mother’s Day was tracked down because he used a credit card to pay for food.

Alexander Dimitri McDaniel, 20, waived his first appearance hearing on Monday. He was arrested and charged in connection with the shooting that happened inside Zinburger Wine and Burger Bar Sunday afternoon.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, McDaniel got into some type of argument with another man. He allegedly slapped the other man in the face and then pulled out a handgun.

Investigators said one shot was fired. No injuries were reported.

Police said McDaniel allegedly pulled his gun after he had already paid the bill using a credit card. Investigators were able to track him down from the credit card information.

The suspect is facing a number of charges including criminal damage to property, reckless conduct and discharge of firearms on property of another. He remains at the Fulton County jail.

Mary K. Davis was eating a late Mother’s Day lunch with her two daughters in the restaurant next door, True Food Kitchen. She reported hearing at least two shots before people started running for cover.

“Then all of a sudden, I hear another pop,” recalled Davis. “And I see the men take the women and children for cover and they’re all crawling on the floor to get inside.”

“It could’ve been much worse. Oh my gosh! That’s what scares me. You know, it could’ve been much, much worse,” Davis said.
