UPDATED: 6 p.m. Friday

The snow started rolling into metro Atlanta late Friday afternoon. The first reports were in north Gwinnett and Cherokee counties.

This is video from Gwinnett County as the snow came down.

The FOX 5 Traffic Team spotted some large flakes coming down late Friday afternoon near Interstate 285 and Glenwood Avenue. The Georgia Department of Transportation’s camera at that location captured the video. It showed the very large flake floating down in front of the lens.

Traffic on the roadways appeared to slow down more than the average Friday commute because of the winter weather.

Sandy Springs also began to see snow around the same time. At the time of this video, none of the flakes appeared to be sticking to the ground, but they were becoming more visible in the air.

Decatur saw large flakes coming down just before 6 p.m. Friday. Residents there said this was the heaviest snowfall they have seen in a couple of years. The snow appeared to begin to stick to the ground as the air started to cool a bit.

The FOX 5 Studios also started to see a sprinkling during FOX 5 News at 5. The snow could be seen coming down near some of the satellite receivers.

Up in Rabun County, the snow had been falling for a while as the snow began to fall in metro Atlanta. Check out this video.

The snow quickly made driving conditions hazardous. Good Day Atlanta’s Marc Teichner spent the night on the roads overnight and early Friday morning as Georgia Department of Transportation crews plowed the streets in the affected areas. GDOT will continue scouting roads and treating areas as needed. They are urging anyone who doesn’t have to be on the roads Friday to stay at home.
