Marietta couple charged with injuring 21-month-old son

A Marietta toddler in critical condition and his parents have been arrested for child abuse, according to a grandmother who said her daughter was also a victim of the child’s father.

The DeKalb County grandmother did not want to be identified, but said both her daughter Chantelle Driver and Driver’s 21-month-old son, Shomari Holmes, Jr., were victims of the child’s father, Shomari Holmes.

Police were called to Driver’s apartment complex in the 2600 block of Bentley Road on Saturday.

The grandmother said the family was stunned that Holmes confessed to harming his son. She expected her daughter to be Holmes’ victim because she said he has been arrested for hitting her daughter several times before.

“When I got the call Sunday, I thought it was my daughter because we warned her many times what we were going to go to her funeral. Never once would we think something would happen to the kids,” the grandmother said with tears in her eyes.

The toddler is in critical condition at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston and some report suggests she may not make it.

“We request that you pray for little Junior. We are all praying for a miracle and just hope that everything works out. My daughter loves her children. She is hurting too,” the grandmother said.

Marietta police interviewed the boy’s parents, Chantelle Driver and Shomari Holmes, and later charged them.
