Euless police officer dead after shooting at city park Tuesday

A Euless police officer was killed after a shootout with a suspect at a city park on Tuesday afternoon.

The officer was shot after arriving at J.A. Carr Park. The Euless police chief said the suspect opened fire on officers as soon as they got to the park, striking the one officer. The suspect was also shot.

Both the officer and suspect were taken to area hospitals for treatment, where they both died shortly after the shooting, the Euless police chief said. The officer died while in surgery at Baylor Hospital in Grapevine.

The name of the deceased officer was not immediately available.

People who lived in the neighborhood next to the park said they heard several gunshots, but they couldn’t see what happened.

“It was kind of scary to hear that pop, pop, pop,” one resident said.

Footage from Sky4 showed a heavy first responder presence at the park. Two nearby schools were briefly placed on lockdown after the shooting as a precaution.
