Deadly Crash Inside Midtown Atlanta Parking Garage

A driver died Sunday after police said he drove his car through the wall of a Midtown parking garage.

The Atlanta Police Department’s Accident Investigation Unit responded to the garage attached to the W hotel around 5:30 Sunday evening.

Witnesses told investigators the man was driving a 2007 Volkswagon EOS 3.2 “at a high rate of speed” before he hit the wall and broke through the other side to a hotel storage area. A worker inside that storage space was hit and taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The driver died at the scene. The crash is still under investigation.

Late Sunday night, Colony Square released this statement about the crash:

” Colony Square is saddened by the tragic accident this evening in which a man died and hotel worker was injured. We are cooperating with Atlanta police as they continue their investigation into the incident. At no time were visitors to Colony Square in danger, and we are relieved that no one in our parking area was injured. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased and with the hotel worker. “
