Arrests following SWAT standoff in Covington neighborhood
A nearly 8-hour long standoff came to a peaceful end as police fired tear gas into the home in which a suspect had barricade himself.
It started around 2 p.m. at a home on off of Emory Street at West Street. Covington police said they notifying the parents after catching a couple of juveniles breaking into a home. When they got to the house to make contact, they saw three men outside.

“There were three males in the yard. Two took off running and one was taken into custody. One of the males that took off running, we found that he was armed and also had a warrant for his arrest. There were also some stolen guns and drugs found in the area where they were standing,” said Officer Allan Seebaran, Covington Police Department.
Police said the third man, Jody Allen Reid, 30, ran into the home of a nearby friend and refused to come out.
Friends gathered near the home hoping for a peaceful outcome to the situation.
They eventually took him into custody. Police confirm Reid had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, but it was not immediately clear on what charges. Newton County Jail records indicate Reid has been arrested at least twice within the last few years.
Authorities said the other two men who were with Reid earlier in the day, Chad Davis, 31, and Anthony Underwood, 42, were also taken into custody. Police also recovered a stolen car they believe Reid had been driving.
Charges have not yet been announced by police stemming from this incident.
